Before we begin, the Summary pamphlet was an accidental buy, do not buy it, but the actual book with the pencil on the front! Tara Westover was born in Clifton Idaho in 1986, though her family isn't sure exactly which day. Her book Educated was published in 2018. Tara worked in her fathers junkyard with her siblings starting at a young age, receiving injury after injury as well as her siblings. Tara also assisted her midwife mother, as well as helped her mother run their pharmacologist business from their kitchen - which has since bloomed into a multi-million dollar company called, "Butterfly Express." Tara's parents are fundamentalist Mormons who don't believe
in medicine, doctors, government help, public school, college, or being a part of society. They do belive in being prepared for the end times, and they were sure they were. By continuing a rigorous task of never-ending preparation, Tara's mentally ill father made sure when the end came, they would be the only ones with food, water, and gasoline. Tara set foot in a classroom for the first time at 17 to take her ACT, where she failed miserably. Between working 3 jobs, and being abused by her older brother, Tara was able to teach herself by using old textbooks and the internet. She was accepted to BYU where she learned about Slavery and the holocaust for the first time. From there Tara was able to attend Cambridge, and Harvard, resulting in a PHD. This is beyond words the best book I've read. Absolutely incredible that this girl was able to survive her family and experience life for the first time. There is just so much I want to get into about this book, but I feel like it would spoil it for first-time readers. Without a doubt a 10/10. I can't recommend this book enough. You can also watch interviews of Tara on Youtube.
