Chris Hogan and Dave Ramsey conducted the largest study of millionaires ever done, by studying 10,000 US millionaires they found some pretty shocking things. For example, they found millionaires often come from middle class or dirt poor backgrounds, a majority of them being farmers. They also found these millionaires don't live in extravagant homes or drive new cars, instead they found millionaires live in homes worth less than $200,000, and drive cars 4 years or older. They found their careers are nothing amazing either, they're often teachers, engineers, accountants, or even janitors and plumbers. Furthermore they discovered the average millionaire has never paid more than $35 for a pair of jeans...they found out everything about these people. Doesn't that go against everything we've been told? Yes! These ordinary people didn't get rich quick, they did it over decades of putting money into an ordinary 401(k) through work and took advantage of compound interest and company matches. Of course the majority invested in a 401(k) as well as separate diverse investments by working with an investment professional. Though, like most, I'm not okay with living on rice and beans, beans and rice for the next 40 years just so I can enjoy the last years of life with more than I can spend. Yes, we invest the maximum in my husbands 401(k) and take advantage of company matches as well as set money aside for more interest building, and we enjoy ourselves as we go along. I simply cant get on board with living like I'm completely broke until retirement. If you're that extreme, you go for it! You absolutely need to set SMART goals that are achievable with a set time limit. I was honestly surprised to see I follow the millionaire Do's and Dont's without even realizing it! Maybe you do, too! Check out this book if you want to know the actual truth about millionaires and just how ordinary they really are!
