The Coddling of the American Mind

So sorry it took me this long to read and review this book, I went through the entire thing with a pen and a sharpie, I highlighted and made notes as I read. This book is exactly what society needs right now. As it turns out, it wasn't millennials who turned this country upside down, as it turns out, it was the generation right after us, iGen, who began college in 2013, yes, the participation trophy generation. This book highlights in detail from kindergarten to where we are now on what has gone severely awry since 2010, 1990's, and even the 1960's. As it turns out, the culprit has a word; safetyism. I had never heard of it, and I'm assuming you probably haven't either. This is the process of preparing the road for the child instead of preparing the child for the road, so to speak. The coddling of an entire generation has brought us to a country that is on fire and on the brink of a second civil war. The idea of words being equivalent to physical pain has left an entire generation crippled and in need of adult supervision and authority figures well into adulthood, which is now taking place later and later. I was going to do a rant on here weeks ago regarding me constantly seeing grown adults collecting toys, playing with fake makeup, dressing as children, etc, and I didn't, now I know what I've been seeing hasn't been a coincidence, it's really happening and it's due to delayed adulthood. This book is just a treasure trove of information pertinent to our society today and where were headed if it doesn't change. The Coddling of the American Mind was published in 2018, so it's not like it's guessing on what's happening in 2020, this is a detailed and incredibly well researched book that you NEED to read, for the sake of us all, educate yourself on these patterns and warning signs. 10/10⭐
