When this book was released in 1966, it was sold underneath the counters in convenience stores. Women read and hid this book like it was porn. So naturally, I had to have it. In 2016 I finally got my hands on this book. I tore open the package, collapsed on my couch and read it cover to cover in 3 days. I was not impressed. I know, right? By 2016 gay rights were a dead issue. Drug addiction had escalated to insane mixtures like krokodil, meth, bath salts, etc. So reading about sleeping pills was zzzz fest. Literally. Don't get me wrong, for the time it was published the idea of the casting couch and sex in exchange for fame I'm positive was a naughty scandal to say the least! Nowadays, it's common sense. If you want to get famous, you take off your clothes and prove you deserve it. When reading this book you have to keep in mind the time in which it was written. Women having sex before marriage? Scandalous! Regardless, it is a classic. I don't regret my purchase, but it felt like a bit of a let down after how much it had been worked up. Also, the movie leaves out a ton. Watch after reading the book, even if it's only to see Sharon Tate. God rest her soul.

7/10
